Searching the Union Catalogue of the Czech Republic and document localization

by Jan Matějovič last modified 2007-11-10 18:27
The Union Catalogue of the Czech Republic contains information about books, serial and special publications in the collections of participating libraries and other public institutions of the Czech Republic.

Primary purpose of any Union Catalogue is to help users locate a document. The Union Catalogue of the Czech Republic provides this service on the WWW interface. It allows you to search the catalogue in the fields such as author, title, year of publication, publisher, ISBN / ISMN / ISSN, call numbers and other. Using keywords for a search may not be exact due to different levels of subject description in the records. The WWW interface makes it possible to:

  • search by simple or sophisticated queries and further specify or filter the results
  • browse the indexes by autor, title, keyword etc. The authority headings are connected to the autority database
  • display, print, send by e-mail or save retrieved records in various formats
  • view more information about a library (contact data, URLs etc.) from the ADR Database interconnected  via the Location Code
  • swich to document owner's catalogue where current details about the  document can be found (it depends on capacities of local catalogues, it is already operational for 72 libraries)

The UC CR also provides ILL service upon an e-mail order form generated from a database record. This service is available for participating libraries only.

Searching the database of the UC RC can also be done through the Uniform Information Gateway where the UC CR is one of the most important sources.
